MUG, multi-user game, was a term used briefly in the United Kingdom by journalists and the general public, but not among gamers. It soon fell out of use, as did the term preferred by Richard Bartle, MUA, multi-user adventure. MUD, derived from MUD1, by usage, became the preferred term, but, generally, only for text-based games.[1]
